Divots, ballmarks and bikes....

I wanted to bring up something that needs to be addressed; divots and ballmarks.  For the most part most of our golfers take care of the golf course.  However, I am seeing more and more unrepaired ballmarks on greens.  I believe many of these ballmarks and divots come from late afternoon play and or practice.   Last week as I was on #16 fairway I could not help but to notice the many divots scattered along the fairway.  From approx. 100 yards in I counted 51 fresh divots!  You can probably guess where the balls landed.... the green.  The fairways were mowed that same day and by the next morning another 20 plus divots showed up. Getting out as a single and playing 2 or 3 balls is one thing but this has to stop.  Other areas where ballmarks were abundant were 5, 15, and 17 greens.  Please do your part and take care of the course.  Repair ballmarks, fill divots, rake your foot prints after you play from a bunker.

Another thing I have noticed lately is bicycle tracks in bunkers.  If they are riding in the bunkers it is likely they are riding across the greens.  I know the weather has become nice, but please talk to your children about where they can and can't ride a bike.  We had a similar issue last year with this and parents got involved and ended it.  Not only is it a safety concern but becomes a liability for NCC if someone is injured.

Thanks for your cooperation

Project #9

America Grading and Landclearing came out yesterday to begin work on #9.  The Sewer/Septic group has graciously funded the project.  The large, old, diseased Oak tree near the green/cart path needed to come down, so it did.  Stumps were ground down and by next week the area should be graded and re-sodded with bermudagrass.  I will post new pictures as soon as the project is complete.

We plan to plant a few trees in the area as we get closer to Fall.

Newnan LGA Invitational

Today the club hosted the Ladies Invitational.  Around 60 players showed up to ideal golfing weather.  The golf course was ready and we added a nice touch for this years event, pink flags.  Now the Ladies have a dedicated set of pink flags, sticks and pink cups for use on special occasions.  Thanks to all who came out to help prepare for this tournament, inside and outside!

Green up is upon us

We have had a busy week, as I have fertilized the entire course with 32-0-0.  This product will give the turf a boost and get it growing.  With the fertilizer, warm weather and rain moving in tonight I predict by next weekend we will be close to 100% green.  Also this week I applied my second application of a fungicide to prevent fairy ring.  Fairy ring exposed itself last year on a few greens and I hope that by applying two different fungicides a month apart we won't see it again.

Greens covers have been brought in after using them just 3 nights this winter.  We did have some cold temps, just not cold enough to warrant covering.

Also this week, Revolver was applied to all greens to kill any Poa annua plants that a few greens have.  This chemical is a great tool we have to use, it will kill cool season plants(Poa annua) in warm season grasses(bermudagrass).

Oh and apparently a big tournament is taking place in Augusta.  The Masters kicks off this morning and I love this event.  The beauty of the course, slope and speed of the greens and the unique holes are just a few things that make this tournament so great. My prediction???  Tiger.  He is long overdue and the hottest player right now and he knows his way around the place!

My transportation this week.

Spring may finally be here...

The weather has changed a lot this year. Last week we welcomed Spring with freeze warnings and severe storms.  But the last few days and extended forecast looks great, with highs in the upper 60's to mid 70's.  We did recieve 1.2 ' of rain over the weekend giving us almost 5.5" for March.  Grass is starting to green up and before long mowers will be working non stop.  I took a few pictures this week.
