Wonderful weekend weather...

Rain has moved in and appears to have set in for a while. More is expected overnight and into Sunday AM.  I took some photos of the course this morning to show how wet we are.  And yes, the answer to the question is Cart Path Only!

Storm Damage

More rain fell last night at NCC and it came with quite a punch.  Nearly 3/4" rain fell and very strong winds caused several trees and large branches to fall.  Damage occurred on 11 of 18 holes. The wind was also strong enough to blow over 2 glass tables behind the clubhouse and shatter the glass.  Cleanup has already begun and hopefully will be complete by Friday.

Green speed

I wanted to bring up a topic that is on a lot of minds, green speed.  Right now we are in a "transition" period with bermudagrass.  This means the grass is beginning to wake up from winter and start growing.  With the last few days in the 70's we will green up soon.  The greens are also transitioning and although they are green, they are not yet growing aggressively.  They are pretty quick right now and as you know we have a few very undulated greens.  A few of these greens, particularly #12 front is almost unplayable.  We are trying to find fair pin placements for these severely sloped greens and you may have noticed the flags in unfamiliar locations.  My thought behind this is to avoid our typical locations since the old plugs just do not heal this time of year.  Many voiced their concerns this weekend on the greens being too penal  with tough pin placements, fast greens and high winds.  I assure you it is not my intention to make it so tough that it's not fun.

90 degree rule

We are back to 90 degrees as the wind really helped dry the course out.  Fairways have been cleaned up and bunkers are repaired.  Today is expected to be cool in the low 50's but warm weather is right around the corner.  This weekend is going to be awesome with temps in the 70's.  Hope to see you out.

Cart Path Only

1.5" of rain fell yesterday and has caused us to be cart path only.  Bunkers are holding water and fairways are a mess once again.  By the end of the day bunkers will be back in good shape while the fairways will be cleaned up tomorrow.  Also, we will be back to 90 degrees Wednesday.  Sorry for the inconvienence.

Busy Saturday:  This past Saturdays' MGA Par 3 tournament was a success.  We had over 40 players show up to ideal weather and a tough course setup. I didn't play in it but have heard that the shots played from #4 fairway to #5 green and #12 chip shot played the toughest.  Also this Saturday Chris hosted a Mega Demo day on the driving range.  Several reps from various club makers were here to provide clubs to try out.  And last but not least Tennis director Yvonne Monet had her Tennis welcome and cook out.  Hopefully the new direction and energy in Tennis will be a huge success for NCC.  Thanks to those who came out.

A great week for project completion

This has been the first week in a while that has allowed us to work on projects and not do storm cleanup.  We did receive .3" of rain from a fast moving storm that brought rain and very gusty winds.  Fortunately no trees fell, only small limbs and pine cones.  The maintenance crew has been working this week on several projects to ready us for Spring.  Tee markers have been repainted, Miscanthus has been divided and replanted, crepe myrtles have been pruned and the new NCC entrance sign is up.  The warmer weather seems to be right around the corner with highs in the low 70's forecast this weekend and 60's all next week.  The MGA is hosting their annual Par 3 kickoff tournament Saturday and the weather should be great, hope to see you out.
